Hey, refuge family. We are here on day two of our summer Salah devotional and we are unpacking the question of before Jesus began his public ministry, why did he choose to be baptized? And we're going to go here to Matthew 3:15. Because Jesus gives us the answer right here. It says, but Jesus answered and said to him, permit it to be so now, for thus is it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.
He did it as a mere act of obedience to fulfill his Father's will. Jesus, fully God, fully man, now giving us the example to fulfill all righteousness. Because of this, he was able to come down to die on a cross and to give us that same access of righteousness. Can you imagine this picture here that stated in Jesus baptism? It's the first picture that we get that's recorded in the three gospels of the first picture of the Trinity together.
You have Father, you have Son, and you now have Holy Spirit, who now has empowered Jesus to now begin his public ministry. What a beautiful picture of redemption and what a beautiful invitation and example that Jesus is giving us as believers to follow him in this, to follow his Father's will, so that we in turn can follow the Father's will for our own life.
