Welcome to day six of Summer Selah. We're so glad that you all have joined us. We are in Matthew 16 through 21, which includes the transfiguration of Jesus, where he takes a couple of the disciples up with him. And we're answering the question today. What character of Jesus does this moment show?
And it's so awesome to think about how relational Jesus was and how he took moments out with his disciples and brought a few. So when I think about the ministry of Jesus, especially in this moment, I think he was trying to establish for them that he was the Messiah and all the things that they had been taught, the things that they knew, he was trying to show them in their hearts that he was the Messiah and he was there for them. And so it's awesome to think about how God just brought them closer. With those few, there was additional sacrifice, I think, and their relationship with Jesus, like taking up their cross and following him and all of that. And in that, they got to see a moment with Jesus that was precious and sacred and something that others didn't get to see.
So it's cool to me that Jesus wanted to solidify their faith and the way that he showed more of himself. He said, hey, I am the Messiah. You know about Elijah, but here I am, I'm the Messiah, and I'm hanging out with them. I think it's cool.
