We are on day seven of our summer Selah series, and our question today is what does his willingness to endure the cross reveal about God's love and justice and how should that shape the way we live and respond to others? As I was reading through the whole book of Matthew, it's just very evident that Jesus is coming to his followers and his disciples, and he's explaining that he's ushering in this new kingdom. And it's kind of an upside down kingdom is different than anything we ever know. It goes against our flesh. It goes against everything that we've ever known, even to the point where Jesus, like all people, hate you.
Awesome. Love them back more. Love them more. Your enemies hate you. Love them as much as you can.
And so as we look at justice throughout the Scripture, we see that Jesus honestly endures the most extreme injustice ever in the fact that he was perfectly sinless, he was fully human, fully God, and yet was willing to endure the cross for our sin and our shame. And so as we look at how should we respond to justice, I think we live in a day and time where everybody is triggered and everybody is offended. And Jesus is basically telling us, look, I took on the offense so that you can go and live for me. And as a matter of fact, at the end of Matthew 28, he says, Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always to the end of the age.
It's kind of a mic drop moment from Jesus. But basically that whole all that I have commanded you, I. I believe the undertone of that is you don't need to go and seek justice for yourself. Let me let Jesus be the ultimate judge and just go and let everybody know all that I've done for you.
